We believe that the environment in which tourism activities take place, consists of a wide combination of natural (e.g. air, water, soil, flora and fauna), and anthropological factors (human, economic, social, cultural, historical, architectural and infrastructural), which can be improved or damaged by these activities, depending on how they are carried out.
As a matter of fact, environmental resources are more vital to the tourism industry than to other economic sectors and represent the primary material for its own productivity.
ICEA promotes Sustainable Tourism, signifying that kind of tourism which:
a) protects, restores and safeguards the natural and cultural heritage of the areas involved;
b) respects the specific characteristics of each locality, in terms of environmental diversity, architectural consistency, cultural and social resources and relevant economic development.
ICEA’s Sustainable Tourism sector develops along three lines:
Certification of “Bio Holiday Farms” in compliance with the standard prepared by AIAB-Associazione Italiana per l'Agricoltura Biologica
The certification of environment-friendly organic Holiday Farms falls within a wider and more ambitious project aiming at restoring the Italian rural patrimony with a view to promoting sustainable tourism.
ICEA’s Inspectors visit every Holiday Farm associated with AIAB in order to check compliance with the AIAB standard. After careful evaluation, every Holiday Farm is given a number of “daisies” (from one to five) based on the quality of services offered and environmental compatibility. "Bio Hotels" Certification to "Die Bio-Hotels" Standard

AIAB, ICEA and Bio-Hotels Association have entered into an agreement aimed at launching also in Italy the original idea of organic hotels, which was first realized in Austria (2001) by a group of hotel keepers who shared the vision of holidays in tune with nature and then extended to Germany on the growing wave of environment-conscious operators and tourists.
