In light of recent food scandals, the Sustainable Food Summit, planned for the incoming 6th and 7th in Amsterdam and sponsored by ICEA, will host the following pre-conference: Food Authenticity and Traceability Workshop Tackles Fraud (June 5, Amsterdam).
This pre-conference workshop - download newsletter - looks at how Organisations can strengthen supply chains and overcome food fraud. Vulnerabilities in the supply chain for food products will be highlighted, followed by a detailed account of the analytical tools and testing methods to detect food fraud.
The Sustainable Food Summit will start the following day, the 6th of June: the 5th European edition of the Sustainable Foods Summit will see the participation of representatives from SAMCERT project, (Strengthening Smallholders' Access to Markets for Certified Sustainable Products) an initiative funded by IFAD and implemented by SCI (Sustainable Commodity Initiative) and ICEA (Istituto per la Certificazione Etica e Ambientale).
The Summit will discuss practical methods of reducing the environmental impact of food products by using sustainable ingredients and changing consumer behaviour. How can food and ingredient firms lower their environmental footprints by the use of sustainable raw materials? What can be done to encourage consumers to undertake responsible purchasing and consumption of food & beverage products? In light of recent food scandals, Organic Monitor have arranged also a pre-conference workshop on Food Authenticity & Traceability (June 5th) to help organisations strengthen their supply chains and prevent food fraud.
Other topics on the summit agenda include food safety & traceability, sustainability in retailing, local supply chains, marketing claims & mislabelling, water footprints, social impact of sourcing, sustainable brand marketing and tackling food insecurity, social media and responsible consumption.
The aim of the Sustainable Foods Summit is to explore new horizons for eco-labels and sustainability. Like previous events organised by Organic Monitor, the summit will bring together key stake-holders in the food industry and debate these major issues in a high-level forum.
