Improvement of the Standard
The ANAB program for the standardization of Ecological Building Materials includes the drafting of a General Technical Rule outlining the cross-criteria valid for all materials and Specific Technical Rules for the different classes of materials.
To certify materials that do not fall within the classes already defined by a specific rule, the general technical rule will be applied.
Definition of Ecological Building Materials
According to the General Standards set by ANAB, ecological building materials are products which:
-
during pre-production, are obtained from renewable raw materials and/or mineral resources and/or processed materials (to be evaluated for environmental compatibility), preferably originating from local geographical contexts.
-
during production, do not entail the use of dangerous substances for humans or the environment, minimizing energy consumption and toxic emissions into the air and water. Product characteristics correspond to the declared end use.
-
during use, do not emit any known pollutants or dangerous substances suspected of affecting human health, or causing discomfort to users in confined spaces. Appropriate information on the product sustainability is provided.
-
at the end of their life cycles, are disposed of according to preestablished instructions for dismantling/ recycling/ disposal in order to reduce their environmental impact
